7 DAY ITINERARY FOR THE IONIAN SEA
Day 1
Athens to Galaxidi
Before reaching Galaxidi the Corinth Canal has to be crossed in order to reach the Ionian Sea. Galaxidi is a picturesque quaint village with an array of tavernas, bars and restaurants by the sea. Ancient Delphi is close by and worth a visit!
Day 2
Galaxidi to Zakynthos
Zakynthos is famous for its vineyards, orchards, olive groves and above all its fantastic beaches. Renowned for the beautiful blue caves and rock formations on the northern tip of the island and the Navagio beach that is probably the most notorious beach in Greece. Zakynthos is the home of the Caretta Caretta turtles that lay their eggs in Lagana bay every June.
Day 3
Zakynthos to Kephalonia
The largest of the Ionian islands, with a lively capital Argostoli and one of the chicest fishing ports in the north, Fiskardo which is a magnet for the superyachts. Antisamos, a long golden beach, is where scenes from the Hollywood movie “Captain Corelli’s mandolin” were filmed. Myrtos bay is a stunning stop for a swim with its white and azure waters under sheer cliffs.
Day 4
Kephalonia to Ithaca
Odysseus’ homeland, resonant with ancient folklore where one can visit the cave of the Nymphs, the fountain of Arethusa and Odysseus’ palace. Beautiful shores surround the island with crystal clear waters and typical Ionian villages and bijoux ports which are ideal for evening strolls and dining.
Day 5
Ithaca to Lefkas
Lefkas boasts an interior of wooded hills encircled by a coast line of high cliffs that reach the turquoise waters with incredilble beaches such as Ekgremnoi, Kathisma and Porto Katsiki. One can also visit Meganisi that is the largest islet in the southern part of the island which is a paradise for yachts with the pine trees shading the wonderful shores.
Day 6
Lefkas to Paxoi
Cruise along the dramatic Emritis Cliffs along the northwest coast and anchor in a quiet cove or take the tender ashore to the beautiful buzzing beaches. The neighbouring island of Anti Paxos is a haven for water sports enthousiasts. The central square of Gaios, the main village of Paxoi, is full of restaurants, cafes and shops that make it a wonderful place for an evening stroll.
